چکیده
Abstract Changes in convective activity and hydroclimate over Northeastern Kalimantan are key features to understand glacial interglacial climate evolution the center of West Pacific Warm Pool during Late Pleistocene Holocene. We use high-resolution X-ray fluorescence (XRF) scanner-derived elemental ratios sediment Core SO217-18522 (1º 24.106’ N, 119º 4.701’E, 975 m water depth) recovered from northern Makassar Strait reconstruct changes precipitation-related weathering erosion last 50 kyr. Enhanced seasonality rainfall an extended dry season Heinrich Stadials (HS4 HS1) Younger Dryas (YD) suggest weakening tropical convection associated with a southward shift rain belt annual mean position Intertropical Tropical Convection Zone. Increasing discharge intensification occurred early mid-Holocene interval high Northern Hemisphere insolation, elevated atmospheric p CO 2 levels global warming. Our reconstructions comparison regional terrestrial marine records highlight spatial variability on millennial glacial-interglacial timescales.

Abrupt shifts in Horn of Africa hydroclimate since the Last Glacial Maximum.
The timing and abruptness of the initiation and termination of the Early Holocene African Humid Period are subjects of ongoing debate, with direct consequences for our understanding of abrupt climate change, paleoenvironments, and early human cultural development. Here, we provide proxy evidence from the Horn of Africa region that documents abrupt transitions into and out of the African Humid P...
متن کاملFactors controlling variability in the oxidative capacity of the troposphere since the Last Glacial Maximum
The oxidative capacity of past atmospheres is highly uncertain. We present here a new climate–biosphere– chemistry modeling framework to determine oxidant levels in the present and past troposphere. We use the GEOS-Chem chemical transport model driven by meteorological fields from the NASA Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS) ModelE, with land cover and fire emissions from dynamic global v...
متن کاملMechanisms of Abrupt Climate Change of the Last Glacial Period
[1] More than a decade ago, ice core records from Greenland revealed that the last glacial period was characterized by abrupt climate changes that recurred on millennial time scales. Since their discovery, there has been a large effort to determine whether these climate events were a global phenomenon or were just confined to the North Atlantic region and also to reveal the mechanisms that were...
متن کاملEast Asian summer monsoon precipitation variability since the last deglaciation
The lack of a precisely-dated, unequivocal climate proxy from northern China, where precipitation variability is traditionally considered as an East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) indicator, impedes our understanding of the behaviour and dynamics of the EASM. Here we present a well-dated, pollen-based, ~20-yr-resolution quantitative precipitation reconstruction (derived using a transfer function) ...
متن کاملThe Continuum of Hydroclimate Variability in Western North America during the Last Millennium
The distribution of climatic variance across the frequency spectrum has substantial importance for anticipating how climate will evolve in the future. Here power spectra and power laws (b) are estimated from instrumental, proxy, and climate model data to characterize the hydroclimate continuum in western North America (WNA). The significance of the estimates of spectral densities and b are test...
